Our Service

We are full time education professionals, delivering history workshops in schools, museums and with home schoolers.  Our school visit service is second to none.  We are the leaders in our field, offering a complete range of educational sessions, planned and delivered to the highest of standards.  Other providers have played catch up, scrambling to design teacher led sessions which we have been offering for nearly fifteen years.  This practice of keeping all children busy with sessions (no gaps for one group when they are waiting for their turn) is now the industry standard – invented by The Specialists!  Please view our Testimonials to see how highly our visits are valued.  Our sessions are child-centred and interactive and clearly curriculum-linked.  We are booked on average 250+ days per year with many schools re-booking year on year and some requesting dates a year in advance.

We are expanding our catchment area and beginning to offer our full day visits up to one and a half hour’s drive from home.  Reduced full days and half days are available with an hour’s radius.  There’s never been a better time to get The Specialists!

  • The cost of a school visit is a central consideration for teachers as well as other factors.  The Specialists offer a range of pricing options to accommodate different requirements.  Days can be delivered by one or two Specialists, dependent on your area and other factors (please see our Terms and Conditions).  Full days can be booked up to one and a half hour’s drive from our base.  Reduced full days, half days and bookings where both Specialists are required can take place in schools up to forty minutes drive from our base.
  • The full day rate is £350.00 from Autumn 2026 plus mileage (60p per mile round trip from CV13 0DZ).  Half days and reduced full days are available at lower rates.
  • Where do we work?
  • We normally work up to one and a half hour’s drive from our home base in Barlestone, Leicestershire or within an hour for half days and reduced full days.
  • How many classes can we work with?
  • We usually work with up to three classes at no extra cost.  However, occasionally we have tailored days especially to include six classes or even a whole school where it is relevant to their learning (again at no extra cost).
  • What are the normal hours for bookings?
  • A Full Day visit for us normally operates from 9am until 3pm, reduced full days 10am-3pm and half days 10am-2pm.  Half days can also run morning or afternoon only and there is room to adjust things on the other visits if necessary.

‘We just wanted to say a massive thank you for yesterday. It was a great day and the kids learnt a load and had great fun! As did the adults! I have spoken to Claire about you offering lots of different history experiences and we will share this with the other staff.
Thanks again and we will definitely be in touch to book something again soon! If not before, Romans day next year.

I would like to say thank you to Gregorius for your story. It was really exciting and I loved it.
I would like to say thank you for giving us the opportunity to experience what it felt like to be a Celt and a Roman.
Thank you for letting us try on Roman armour and clothes. It was awesome!
I loved when we did the testudo march. It was so exciting!
Thank you for telling us the ancient roman stories.
I liked when we wrote using roman pens and ink and learnt to write in Latin. It was quality!
I thought Boudicca was fantastic and fearsome and fabulous!
I also liked how Boudicca was telling her life story. I now don’t think she was so evil!
I learnt loads. I learnt that the Roman soldiers weren’t allowed to have wives.
I loved the myth at the end.
I loved playing all the Roman games.
I loved dressing up in Roman things.

Charlie (Class Teacher, Leicester)

“Just wanted to say a huge thank you for providing us with a fantastic Tudor day last Thursday.  The children absolutely loved it from start to finish and wrote glowing newspaper reports about all the interesting things they learnt and the fun activities they tried.   We were very impressed with the quality of the sessions, you provided really exciting ways to learn about Tudor life!  The resources you brought were great, especially the Tudor feast, games and medicine ingredients, and your natural rapport with the children (in character the whole day!) was outstanding.  I would recommend the Specialists for History topic days to every school!”

Simon Morrell (Class Teacher, Lincs)

“I just wanted to put into writing how much we loved your Viking day.  It was brilliant.  The children and staff all enjoyed it.  For children of that age to sit and listen to you for over an hour shows how engaged they were.  This was down to your excellent delivery and brilliant knowledge about what interests children, not to mention your amazing knowledge of Vikings.  The staff also thought the day was wonderful.  As you can imagine they see a lot of people coming to deliver lessons to our pupils and they all commented that you were the best.  So thank you very much.  We will definitely be contacting you again and I would happily recommend you to other schools.

Thanks again.”

Caroline Webster, Class Teacher, Notts

“I am pleased that the children were all good representatives of the school regarding their behaviours – although I do know that behaviour was not an issue because they were so hooked. You made the Egyptian era extremely realistic, fun and exciting and the children are going to get some fantastic work from your visit. Thank you very much and I shall be in touch in the future.”

Helen Winfield, Class Teacher, South Yorkshire

“Hi Lisa, thank you so much for today; the children had a fab time and learned loads and have gone home to make their own papyrus paper – surely a good sign. What you do is great and I will gladly recommend you in the future”

Sarah Goode, Class Teacher, Northants

“I just wanted to say how much my Year One class enjoyed having a visit from “Tommy Top Hat”.  The range of old toys and knowledge that Greg had was very impressive.  Greg was able to answer many questions that the children had, which was fantastic.

Thank you to Lisa who was on the end of the phone answering any questions I had and helping to make the whole experience for the children and myself run smoothly.

I shall look forward to opportunities in the future where I can ask “The Specialists” to come to our school.

Many Thanks and Kind Regards”

Lauren McPherson, Class Teacher, Warks

“Dear Greg, I wanted to thank you again for spending the day with us. The children really enjoyed it and it got our theme off to a flying start! I’ve written a quick blog post and added a recommendation and a link to your website as I am sure other teachers will be interested.”

Jo Badge, Class Teacher, Leics

“Thank you for a wonderful Viking day.  The children were engaged and entertained all day and you provided a perfect balance of informative talk, questioning and practical experiences.  The highlights for us were handling the artifacts (the seal skin was amazing), playing a variety of Viking games and listening to the storytelling, especially the communal story where we all joined in!  You really brought the different aspects of raiding and trading to life and we can’t wait to invite you back next year. Many thanks on behalf of the Year 3 children and staff.”

Josie Heald, Class Teacher, Northants

“Dear Leagrid and Gregolf!  We wanted to say a big ‘thank you’ for coming to (our school) … last Tuesday.  The children really enjoyed themselves and here are some of the things they said: “I enjoyed holding the weapons!”; “I enjoyed playing Nine Men’s Morris.”; “I loved playing Kubb and throwing the other team’s pins back.”; “I liked it when Gregolf told us a story and the children and teachers joined in.”; “I liked Leagrid showing us the Viking dance.”  It was a fantastic day and the children learned lots of new facts. … Many thanks again and I hope we see you in the future.

Mrs Gibb, Miss Lampard, Miss Tebbutt, Class Teachers, Warks

“Fantastic, knowledgeable and fun – the children were engrossed at all times. We would certainly invite The Specialists back into school. They have been professional, tailored activities to the children’s needs and involved both staff and children alike. We all had a fantastic morning. Thank you.”

Mrs Fisher, Yr. 3 Teacher, Desford Primary School

“Thanks Greg, the day was a great success – and great to have you in school again too.”

Mr Raben, Head Teacher, Martinshaw Primary School
